Users were getting lost in the divide between our social platform and our competition platform. We needed a way to unify the two and add more quality to our signups. This new process focuses on getting users to follow tags, people and friends. This creates a rich feed for them to land on after the process and quickly shows them the variety of creative work on the site.
We added a home page feed of creators and tags that users follow and we wanted this to be filled with relevant posts when they landed on it. Pulling the users through a builder as the first onboarding step was the best way to do this. It makes you familiar with the variety of work on the site, shows you friends already on the site and gets you making decisions and customizng your account right away.
At this point in the process the user is dropped onto their feed. Since some users will be coming in from transaction flows (buying a tshirt, postcard, or tipping) we wanted to make the signup process as simple as possible and took out any profile building steps. Instead we throw up a reminder to fill out their profile. If we got an image, name and location from the users facebook page we do not show this message.
